以前の『ライトハウス英和辞典』 に挙がっていたThe doctor healed him of his burn.（医者は彼のやけどを治した）という用例の不自然さは分かりますか？そもそもやけど(burn)をhealしたりcureすることはできません。Burns heal.（やけどが癒える）はOKですが。cureは”the elimination of disease, distress, evil, etc.”ということで、それに対して、healは “the making or becoming whole of a wound, sore, etc.) “という意味です。したがって、heal a person of his wounds/ cure a person of his diseaseが普通の使い方なのです。このような事情で、burnをwounds（傷）に訂正しておいたのでした。現在の版ではもっと普通のThe doctor healed his wounds. という用例になっています。
