When a Latin American refers to something happening “the other day,” most Americans presume that the speaker is referring to an event that occurred the previous day. To the Latin, however, “the other day” often can mean that the event transpired at some time in the past―perhaps as much as a month or more ago. These two different concepts of time, which members of each cutlture consider to be “natural,” are bound to cause confusion.
